Types of Foot and Ankle Injuries
There are several types of common foot and ankle injuries that you may experience in your life. Some common types of foot and ankle injuries may include:
- Sprained Ankle- A sprain occurs when a ligament has been stretched or torn. A sprained ankle will usually heal with rest and ice, but if pain continues to persist, it’s important to contact your podiatrist to be sure that it hasn’t led to any further injuries.
- Achilles Tendonitis- The Achilles tendon runs down the back of the ankle and is susceptible to inflammation when overused. This can lead to a tear in the tendon and further pain to occur.
- Stress Fracture- Stress fractures occur when consistent impact and trauma are happening to the foot. This can cause tiny cracks to begin forming in the foot bones and can lead to pain and further injury.
- Plantar Fasciitis- When you spend a lot of time on your feet, you can begin to notice that your feet become stiff and sore after sitting or after waking up and that pain is primarily stemming from the heels. This is usually due to plantar fasciitis and can be treated with stretching exercises and splints.
